When plastic surfaces are exposed to fluorine gas under defined conditions, they produce a dry-chemical reaction which exchanges atoms in their surface layers. The naturally enclosed hydrogen atoms are permanently replaced by fluorine and oxygen atoms. KSK uses this technology to activate the surfaces on components with very complex outlines since the fluorine gas can penetrate even into the smallest recesses, cavities and joints. Components which were pre-treated by fluorination have a significantly greater paint adhesion, longevity of the surface finish and better capacities for further processing – for example, for bonding.
